Cell Phone Companies Should Be Held Accountable

I've been kind of ticked off for the last couple of years by the cell phones that I have had, the only places that I have ever gotten a good signal have been large commercial areas.  By reading my blog I'm sure that you have picked up on the fact that I don't like large commercial areas so I don't spend time in those areas if I can help it (also some of these areas that I have been in, I still get poor cell signal).  My cell service is Verizon, and I have a phone that I just got less than a year ago, its an LG VX8550, when i first got this phone it didn't get any better coverage than the last phone I had, which was the model right below this one.  So right there I noticed that getting a newer more expensive model of phone (I say more expensive because it was probably about $30 more for this one) didn't seem to improve the cell signal.  Recently this past summer, I had a friend over who happened to have Verizon cell service, but he had a Blackberry phone.  He was able to get like 4 bars where my phone got no bars, so then I came to the realization that only the most expensive newest phones get the proper coverage that Verizon claims to offer.

To Fiddle or Not to Fiddle?

About a month ago I found out that my mother still had my grandmother's old fiddle (made in the 1920's), and I decided that it would be cool to take up another instrument.  I knew the fiddle needed repairs, so I took it to a fiddle repair shop.  When I was there I told the shopkeeper my plan to teach myself to play the fiddle, thinking that it wouldn't be beyond my musical ability, seeing as to how i taught myself to play the harmonica and the guitar, and continuing my banjo lessons without an instructor.

What Black Friday Means To Me

First off let me say, Happy Thanksgiving, it has been a pretty awesome day of football, eating, and drinking.  As we all know, tomorrow is the day called Black Friday, for me that means sleeping late and then eating the leftovers from thanksgiving, which in no way is depressing.  For many other Americans though, early tomorrow morning could be a day of danger, and I'm not talking the kind of danger you'd have to be brave to face, I'm talking danger you'd have to be incredibly stupid and possibly mentally retarded to face.  Maybe its my fear of large crowds of people and the ensuing stupidity that arises from such a mass.  I would never ask my mother to risk her life for an item, especially if there is a possibility that the item could be trampled along with my mother.  I site a paragraph from a Wikipedia article that documented such a trampling.

Lets Talk South Park: Thanksgiving Extravaganza / The Two Sides of Cartman

This is going to be a short post because I just took some Ibuprofen PM and am about to fall asleep.  To set the record, this is the last south park discussion of 2009, and being that it has to do with re-runs I feel that putting effort into it is too much effort.  The Thanksgiving Extravaganza was a natural choice for the night before Thanksgiving as this is the go-to South Park thanksgiving episode, mostly because it has turkeys in it, and Helen Keller?

Willie Moore

I've started playing this song called "Willie Moore", it seems to be an old Appalachian ballad about a young man named Willie Moore.  The song calls this Willie Moore a king, though i think that this was just a metaphor for him being a very eligible bachelor.  Willie Moore falls in love with this girl named Ellen, but when he goes to ask her parents for Ellen's hand in marriage they turn him down.

A Dark Day for Southpark Fans

As many of the readers of this blog are aware (probably like 3 people, including myself),  South Park will not be airing a new episode tonight, unfortunately this comes at the time that I was going to announce my Wednesday night South Park discussions, guess I dropped the ball on that one.

The Cons of Reality Television

Well I was watching the Biggest Loser last night because my mom had it on the tube, and being Tuesday there was nothing worth changing the channel for, my mother was telling me how she thought the show was such an inspiration because these people were losing weight.  I've got nothing against losing weight, I've lost a good chunk myself, but after watching this I realized that the show really wasn't only about losing weight, it was about making alliances, and losing more weight than other people.
